2010 Australian Open Round 1 Results: Rafael Nadal Shakes Off Slow Start, Gets Past Peter Luczak in Straight Sets

Rafael Nadal moved into the second round at the 2010 Australian Open, starting off a bit slow but eventually dropping Peter Luczak in straight sets 7-6 (7-0), 6-1, 6-4 in the first Grand Slam of the season.

Nadal displayed some surprising power in his opening match, hammering out 11 aces while also showing his trademark control with just one double-fault and 16 unforced errors. The Spaniard won 76% of his first serves put in play and had his serve broken just once.

Nadal captured his first Australian Open title last year but then fell in the fourth round at the French Open to Robin Söderling, an Grand Slam event he had won the four previous years. Nadal then withdrew from Wimbledon due to his knee injury. In 2008 Nadal captured his first Wimbledon title leaving the U.S. Open as the only Grand Slam event the 23-year-old Spaniard hasn’t won.
