Portland Trail Blazers guard Brandon Roy was named the NBA’s Rookie of the Year on Wednesday after amassing 127 of the 128 first-place votes.
Roy led all first year players with averages of 16.8 points per game, 4.0 assists and 35.4 minutes per contest. The 6’6 guard was just about the only bright spot for the Blazers this season as the team finished 32-50, tied for the third worst record in the Western Conference.
The 127 first-place votes amounted to 638 points, far surpassing those of second-place finisher Andrea Bargnani (264) of the Toronto Raptors and third-place finisher Rudy Gay (93) of the Memphis Grizzlies.
