The majority of responses indicate that most Believers think it is okay to apply for auto loans. Out of 300 participants in this survey, 216 say "yes" to Christians financing a vehicle. Overall the consensus is that going into debt for a vehicle is the same as buying a house. Homes and autos are just too expensive for most people to pay cash for. One participant said, "Unless you're a millionaire, it's probably the only way you're going to own a vehicle." The vehicle of choice should be affordable and not overly priced. It is also important to think of fuel and repair costs when making a purchase.
Twenty-eight readers do not feel that Christians should apply for auto loans. Living close to work, school, the grocery store, and other destinations may make if feasible to not own a vehicle. For those who have some distance to drive there has to be other choices such as public transportation. Otherwise, paying cash or financing may be the only two choices. This group overall agrees that Christians should not borrow but instead save enough cash to buy a used car.
Fifty-seven people were unsure about this survey question mainly because of individual circumstances. Some people have other options, depending upon location, destination, and cash availability. There is also some debate in this group with trying to stay out of debt and not become a servant to the lender. Most Christians wholeheartedly agree on this point but sometimes there is no other option but to resort to auto loans.
