One week after raising more than $70 million for charities and giving contestants a brief respite from the elimination ax ‘American Idol’ was back in form and twp heads were on the chopping block instead of the traditional single ‘Idol.’
So, for the first time since auditioning for the show, Chris Richardson and Phile Stacey awoke on Thursday idle, and no longer Idols.
For Richardson, it was rather obvious that he was destined to be one of the two sent packing as he hadn’t put on a solid performance for some time. Needing to put together a blowout performance on Tuesday night’s show, he didn’t answer the bell and now he is gone.
Stacey was a bit more interesting as he was sent home at the peak of his popularity. He had his best night last week and two weeks ago he impressed the judges as well. On Tuesday, while not sensational, still managed to build momentum but in the end he didn’t have a real defined fan base to save him.
The biggest winner of the night may have been Blake Lewis who now stands as the last remaining guy on the show. That doesn’t guarantee him a free pass but he might have the most loyal fan base remaining. He could easily make it to the final two but don’t count on him winning.
LaKisha Jones stepped up to the plate on Tuesday and delivered an ‘Idol’ saving moment. Jones had really slipped down the list over the past few weeks but went back to what got her in the competition and gained enough votes to survive. Chances are she’s gone next week regardless.
Jordin Sparks continues to rise in popularity despite delivering one of the worst performances on Tuesday. Rock might not be her genre but it’s doubtful that LaKisha and Melinda Doolittle grew up on Led Zeppelin and the Rolling Stones. The way Sparks is moving she’s probably the favorite at this point.
Melinda Doolittle is consistently one of the top two performers each week. While she may have peaked early she should get past this coming week but the top three will bring strange things for the show. Hands down the best singer in the competition, Doolittle may be in the audience when the final ‘American Idol’ is crowned.
