2010 Australian Open Round 2 Results: Kim Clijsters Too Strong for Tamarine Tanasugarn, Moves into Third Round in Melbourne

Kim Clijsters, still fresh off her amazing Grand Slam victory at the 2009 U.S. Open, continued to show she’s back after taking apart Tamarine Tanasugarn in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 in the second round of the Australian Open in Melbourne.

Clijsters finished with six aces and collected 35 winners in the match. The Belgian managed to win 69% of her first serves put in play and broke Tanasugarn’s serve five times. Tanasugarn was foced to play defensive most of the match as her serve did little to put her in osition for points.

Clijsters, the former world’s number one, captured her first Grand Slam singles title at the U.S. Open in 2005 after beating Mary Pierce and then in 2009 she marked her return to tennis with a dramatic run at the U.S. Open, eventually knocking off Caroline Wozniacki in the finals for her second Grand Slam singles title. She has reached the finals at the French Open twice and the Australian Open once.
