2010 Australian Open Round 2 Results: Maria Kirilenko Keeps Rolling, Eases Past Yvonne Meusburger in Straight Sets

Maria Kirilenko, coming off her stunning victory over Maria Sharapova in the opening round of the Australian Open, showed no signs of slowing down in the second round as she took apart Yvonne Meusburger in straight sets 6-3, 6-1 to advance to the third round at Melbourne.

Kirilenko wasn’t exactly sharp in her second round match as she committed 39 unforced errors but hammered out 27 winners compared to just 4 for Meusburger. The Russian had little trouble handling Meusburger’s serve and broke on six of 17 opportunities.

Kirilenko has never won a Grand Slam singles title and her best finish came at last year’s Australian Open where she reached the fourth round, losing to Daniela Hantuchová. She reached the third round at the U.S. Open on four occasions while also reaching the third round at the French Open in 2006. Her best finish at Wimbledon has been a second round appearance.
