Andy Murray was dominant in his first round match at the Australian Open and that dominance carried over into the second round as he made short work of Marc Gicquel, taking apart the Frenchman in straight sets 6-1, 6-4, 6-3 to advance to the third round.
Murray pounded out ten aces in the match while committing just two double-faults. He collected points on 72% of his first serves put in play while allowing Gicquel to break his serve just once. Gicquel was simply overmatched as he managed just one ace and had his serve broke six times in a match that lasted less than two hours.
Murray has yet to capture a Grand Slam singles title yet he reached the finals at the 2008 U.S. Open where he fell to Roger Federer. He reached the semifinals of Wimbledon last year before being dismissed by Andy Roddick and he reached the quarterfinals of the 2009 French Open where he lost to Fernando Gonzalez. His best finish at the Australian Open has been a fourth round appearance.
