Southwire Company has signed a definitive agreement American Insulated Wire Corporation (AIW) to purchase certain assets. AIW is a subsidiary of Leviton Manufacturing Co. Inc. Southwilre is set to acquire AIW brands and two manufacturing facilities. The facilities are located in Douglas, Georgia, and Coffeyville, Kansas. Both facilities product wire and cable products for use in the commercial, industrial, retail and OEM markets. The transaction is expected to close at the end of February.

Southwire Company is a wire and cable manufacturer. The Company's products include building wire and cable, utility cable products, industrial power cable, copper and aluminum rod, cord products, machining, fabrication and engineering services, continuous casting technology, communications cable and specialty products, such as transit system cabling. On December 6, 2002, the Company and nkt cables, both of which are active in the development of high-temperature superconducting (HTS) power cables, formed a joint company to continue the development and eventual commercialization of HTS cable systems.
