Australian Open 2010 Round 2 Results: Venus Williams Does Enough to Get Past Sybille Bammer, Moves into Round 3

Venus Williams wasn’t exactly perfect but was good enough as she powered her way past Sybille Bammer in straight sets 6-2, 7-5 to advance to the third round at the Australian Open in Melbourne.

Williams found herself even at 1-1 in the first set but rattled off several sets to take control and in the second set she used her strong serve to battle back from two breaks down. The American finished with seven aces in the match and finished with 41 winners compared to just four for Bammer.

Venus Williams has seven Grand Slam singles titles, five of them at Wimbledon and another two at the U.S. Open. The American has reached the finals at the Australian Open and the French Open but lost to her sister, Serena Williams, in both of those Grand Slam finals.
