The wait is over and the numbers are in and while it may face some tough competition in the weeks ahead, at least for now “Spider-Man 3” holds the opening day record at the box-office. With $59 million pulled in on Friday “Spider-Man 3” knocked off “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” previous record of $55.8 million last summer.
Tobey Maguire, Kristen Dunst and the rest of the “Spider-Man” cast now have their sites set on the three-day weekend record ‘Pirates’ set at $135.6 million. The first “Spider-Man” held the three-day record with $114.8 million until Johnny Depp and co. smashed the record four years later.
It could be a short lived record as “Shrek the Third” opens in two weeks and that will be followed by “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End.” With a slew of highly anticipated films hitting the screen this summer box-office optimists are expecting record numbers at the ticket counter.
