Roger Federer got his Australian Open off to a rocky start in his opening round match but he steadied the ship in round 2, needing just over an hour and a half to take apart Victor Hanescu in straight sets 6-2, 6-3, 6-2 and advance to the third round.
Federer game with a solid service game, winning points on 82% of his first serves put in play while collecting eight aces. He also managed to total 52 winners in the short match compared to just 20 for Hanescu.
Federer has won the Australian Open three times, most recently in 2007. The Swiss star also owns a career Grand Slam having won his first French Open title last year to go along with his five U.S. Open titles and six Wimbledon titles. Federer’s 15 Grand Slam singles titles are most of any male player.
