After being handed a 45-day sentence for violation of her probation, Paris Hilton opted to drop her publicist, Elliot Mintz, whom she believes to be the cause of her stay with the state.
Hilton told reporters on Friday that Superior Court Judge Michael Sauer’s ruling was “cruel and unwarranted” and insisted that she was “treated unfairly.” The 26-year-old celebutante had told the judge that she was informed by Mintz that she was allowed to drive.
For his part, Mintz accepted responsibility for the misinformation yet Sauer wasn’y buying it when he made his ruling. Hilton had been arrested in September for reckless driving and driving while intoxicated, she was most recently ticketed in February when police spotted her speeding down Sunset Boulevard with her lights off.
Paris had her license suspended after the September arrest and was sentenced for that incident to three years probation and mandated to attend alcohol awareness classes. Hilton never attended the classes and her latest incident in February was seen as a violation of her probation.
Hilton’s lawyer, Howard Weitzman, has said he hopes to have the sentence modified through an appeal.
