The gunman responsible for killing 32 people on the campus of Virginia Tech, Seung-Hui Cho, never underwent court ordered treatment after being declared an imminent threat to himself and others.
In December 2005 Cho had been ordered to involuntary outpatient treatment after special judge Paul M. Barnett found the then 21-year-old to be “mentally ill and in need of hospitalization.”
Despite the order, Cho never attended any treatment sessions or programs and there was no follow up to ensure that the Virginia Tech student actually followed the court order.
On April 16 of this year Cho orchestrated the deadliest shooting rampage in U.S. history when he shot and killed 32 people on the campus of Virginia Tech before killing himself.
