2010 Australian Open Round 3 Results: Maria Kirilenko Stretches Run into Fourth Round After Edging Roberta Vinci

Maria Kirilenko has matched her deepest run at a Grand Slam event after a hard fought straight set victory over Roberta Vinci 7-5, 7-6 (7-4) to reach the fourth round at the Australian Open in Melbourne.

Kirilenko managed to score points on 77% of her first serves put in play and while she could only break Vinci’s serve twice in 17 opportunities she defended her serve well, allowing Vinci to break just once.

Kirilenko has never won a Grand Slam singles title and her best finish came at last year’s Australian Open where she reached the fourth round, losing to Daniela Hantuchová. She reached the third round at the U.S. Open on four occasions while also reaching the third round at the French Open in 2006. Her best finish at Wimbledon has been a second round appearance.
