Portland Trail Blazers’ guard Brandon Roy and Toronto Raptors big man Andrea Bargnani received the most votes among the 30 NBA head coaches for the selection of the league’s annual All-Rookie team.
Roy, who had earlier been named the NBA Rookie of the Year, topped all candidates with 58 points. The Trail Blazers spark led all rookies with an average of 16.8 points per game and four assists.
Right behind Roy in the voting was Toronto Raptors forward Andrea Bargnani who received 57 points after averaging 11.6 points and 3.9 rebounds per contest.
Randy Foye of the Minnesota Timberwolves received 48 points to join the squad. Foye averaged 10.1 points and 2.8 assists a game.
The Memphis Grizzlies, owner of the worst record during the season, had their lone bright moment with Rudy Gay being named to the team. Gay picked up 39 points for his 10.8 points and 4.5 boards per game.
LaMarcus Aldridge joined Roy as a Portland rep with 37 points after averaging 9 points and 5 rebounds over the season.
Toronto also placed two players on the All-Rookie team after Jorge Garbajosa earned 37 points for his 8.5 points and 4.9 rebounds per game.
Second-team selections went to Paul Millsap (Utah Jazz), Marcus Williams (New Jersey Nets), Adam Morrison and Walter Hermann (Charlotte Bobcats), Tyrus Thomas (Chicago Bulls), Craig Smith (Minnesota Timberwolves), Rajon Rondo (Boston Celtics).
