Venus Williams found herself facing a fan favorite in the third round of the Australian Open but managed to get past Casey Dellacqua in straight sets 6-1, 7-6 (7-4) to advance to the fourth round in Melbourne.
Venus finished with seven aces in the match and collected points on 80% of her first serves put in play to keep Dellacqua on her heels. Venus totaled 31 winners and allowed Dellacqua just one break while breaking the Australian’s serve three times.
Venus Williams has seven Grand Slam singles titles, five of them at Wimbledon and another two at the U.S. Open. The American has reached the finals at the Australian Open and the French Open but lost to her sister, Serena Williams, in both of those Grand Slam finals.
