Andy Murray stood toe to toe with the 6-foot-9 John Isner and never blinked an eye as the Scotsman cut down the American in straight sets 7-6 (7-4), 6-3, 6-2 to advance to the quarterfinals of the Australian Open in Melbourne.
Murray found discipline to be the answer in the fourth round as he allowed Isner to do himself in with 41 unforced errors. In comparison Murray totaled just eight unforced errors and won 83% of his first serves put in play. Murray never saw his serve broke and caught Isner on three of six opportunities.
Murray has yet to capture a Grand Slam singles title yet he reached the finals at the 2008 U.S. Open where he fell to Roger Federer. He reached the semifinals of Wimbledon last year before being dismissed by Andy Roddick and he reached the quarterfinals of the 2009 French Open where he lost to Fernando Gonzalez. His best finish at the Australian Open prior to 2010 had been a fourth round appearance.
