Nadia Petrova, still searching for her first career Grand Slam singles title, continued to roll at the Australian Open as she powered her way past Svetlana Kuznestova in three sets 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 to reach the quarterfinals in Melbourne.
Petrova finished with six aces in the match while wining 67% of her first serves put in play. Both women had trouble with their unforced errors as Petrova totaled 47 and Kuznetsova tallied 52. Petrova did take advantage of her break point opportunities as she was successful on five of her 11 chances.
Petrova has yet to win a Grand Slam singles title and her quarterfinals appearance matches her best run at the Australian Open. She reached the quarterfinals at Wimbledon and the U.S. Open on two occasions and her best finish at the French Open was a semifinals appearance in 2003 and 2005.
