Australian Open 2010 Round 4 Results: Andy Roddick Fights Way Past Fernando Gonzalez to Reach Quarterfinals

Andy Roddick continued his march toward his second career Grand Slam singles title, overcoming a one-set deficit to knock off Fernando Gonzalez in a five set battle 6-3, 3-6, 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 to reach the quarterfinals at the Australian Open in Melbourne.

Roddick finished the match with 32 aces while limiting himself to just17 unforced errors. In comparison Gonzalez had 17 aces but totaled 49 unforced errors. For Roddick, everything was about the serve as he collected points on 87% of his first serves put in play and gave Gonzalez just four chances to break his serve.

Roddick has one Grand Slam singles title, the 2003 U.S. Open, while he has reached three Wimbledon finals and the U.S. Open finals in 2006, all three finals losses came at the hands of Roger Federer. Roddick’s best finish at the Australian Open has been the semifinals, something he has accomplished four times, most recently last year where he fell to Federer.
