In the end it was Lakisha Jones’ inconsistency that cost the ‘American Idol’ hopeful a spot in the top three as the 27-year-old Maryland native was sent packing on Wednesday night.
Jones tried to rally her fans on Tuesday with her rendition of “Stayin’ Alive” but it wasn’t enough as she landed in the bottom two with Blake Lewis and when it was revealed that she had received the lowest amount of votes nobody was shocked.
Having established herself as an early favorite in the competition Jones slipped over the past few weeks with less than impressive showings. With Melinda Doolittle dropping solid performance after solid performance, the emergence of Jordin Sparks and the unique styles of Blake Lewis the writing was on the wall.
‘American Idol’ is now entering that phase where popularity will rule the day. While Melinda is clearly the better singer does she have enough support to stop the mountain of support being thrown Jordin’s way? Will the two ladies split votes and give Blake Lewis the votes needed to sneak into the top two? Lewis definitely has the upper hand next week and if he can do marginally better than the disaster he spewed out on Tuesday he could find himself on the stage when the next ‘American Idol’ is revealed.
