“Chemical Ali” Execution Carried Out in Iraq

The execution of Ali Hassan al-Majid, a former Iraqi official under Saddam Hussein, has been executed according to government officials.

 

 Known as “Chemical Ali,” al-Majid had been sentenced to death on several occasions, most recently for his role in the killings of Shia Muslims the in Sadr City district of Baghdad in 1999. A court had also handed down a death sentence to “Chemical Ali” for ordering gas attacks on the Kurdish town of Halabja in 1988 as well as his role in crushing a Shia revolt following the 1991 Gulf War.

 

“Chemical Ali,” a cousin of the former President Saddam Hussein, was executed by hanging.
