Google has remained curiously optimistic regarding China’s reaction to their insistence that the Nation discontinue intense Internet censorship. China has budged little in the week’s since a g-mail hacking on Chinese human rights activists inspired Google C.E.O.s to take a stand against government policy. Today, Google's head lawyer, David Drummond predicted that the company’s dispute with the Chinese government should be resolved in a matter of weeks.
Drummond said the company is presently engaged in discussions with the Chinese government to confer about the threat that the search engine would discontinue operations if change is not made. The Chinese media is expressing frustration at the American reaction, particularly that of the U.S. government, who has used this as an opportunity to strike down Chinese policy that has long been a source of contention for the two nations.
Last week, Google C.E.O.s said they remained confident that could come to an agreement and persist in their current operations with new guidelines. China appears to have made no concessions thus far.
