The Kentucky Wildcats are back atop the college basketball world, making a clean sweep in the ballots to become the #1 team in the country according to the AP Top 25 Week 11 rankings. Kentucky’s comfortable win over Arkansas coupled with a pair of losses by the Texas Longhorns moved the Wildcats from the number two spot up to number one, well ahead of the Kansas Jayhawks who earned the #2 ranking.
Texas couldn’t stop the bleeding after dropping a tough road game to Kansas State as they fell to Connecticut in their next game, resulting in their #6 ranking in this week’s AP Top 25. Villanova, Syracuse and Michigan State each passed the Longhorns in the rankings while the Georgetown Hoyas, fresh off wins against Pittsburgh and Rutgers, jumped five spots to #7, one behind Texas.
Also tumbling this week was the Tennessee Volunteers who dropped from #8 to #14 after an ugly loss to an unranked Georgia Bulldogs squad. Things could get much tougher for the undermanned Volunteers as they face Vanderbilt and Florida this week.
Absent from the AP Top 25 college basketball rankings all together are the North Carolina Tar Heels who have seen a season o expectation turn ugly. After losses to Clemson and Georgia Tech dropped then from #12 to #24 they fell to Wake Forest on Jan. 20 and didn’t receive a single vote this week.
