2010 Australian Open Quarterfinals Results: Justine Henin into Semifinals Straight Set Win Over Nadia Petrova

Justine Henin continued to put women’s tennis on notice as the Belgian marched into the semifinals of the Australian Open after knocking off Nadia Petrova in straight sets 7-6 (7-3), 7-5.

Henin used a controlled serve to handle Petrova as she grabbed points on 81% of her first serves put in play. Petrova, having already knocked off Kim Clijsters and Svetlana Kuznetsova, didn’t look bad but just ran into the wrong opponent as Henin capitalized on her 41 unforced errors.

Henin left competitive tennis in 2008 after winning seven Grand Slam singles titles. The 27-year-old Belgian won the Australian Open in 2004, the U.S. Open in 2004 and 2007, and the French Open in 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2007. She reached the finals at Wimbledon twice but fell to Venus Williams in 2001 and Amélie Mauresmo in 2006; both matches went three sets.
