While the season didn’t turn out the way the Dallas Mavericks had hope, they may take some joy out of knowing Dirk Nowitzki will be named the league’s MVP. With voting already completed before the NBA playoffs begun the Mavericks shocking first round loss to the Golden State Warriors didn’t come into play when voters cast their ballots.
Averaging 24.6 points per game and grabbing 8.9 rebounds Nowitzki led the Mavericks to a 67-15 regular season record (best record in franchise history) and a number one seed heading into the Western Conference playoffs. Dirk hit 50.2 percent of his field goal attempts while burying 41.6 percent from beyond the three-point line.
The German born Nowitzki will become the first European to be handed the league’s top individual trophy.
A formal announcement declaring Nowitzki as the NBA MVP will be made on Tuesday.
