Jason Kidd finished with 23 points, 13 rebounds and 14 assists while Vince Carter and Richard Jefferson added 23 points each as the New Jersey Nets knocked off the Cleveland Cavaliers 96-85 to win their first game of the playoff series and turn the series into a 2-1 contest.
After LeBron James hit a three-pointer with 9:48 remaining in the fourth quarter the Cavaliers pulled to within four. New Jersey responded with an 8-0 run to take control of the game 85-73 with just over four minutes remaining and the Cavaliers had no answer.
Cleveland fell behind by 12 in the second quarter but used a 15-0 run to take a three-point lead. Kidd then buried a triple and hit a pair of free-throws to end the Cavaliers charge and give the Nets the lead for good.
The Nets shot 47 percent from the floor and finished the game with a 43-30 advantage on the glass.
Larry Hughes led the Cavaliers with 23 points and LeBron James finished with 18 points on 5-16 shooting.
The two teams will remain in New Jersey and play game four of their best of seven playoff series on Monday.
