Portsmouth, New Hampshire - CoolSculpting® is an innovative and non-invasive body contouring treatment for fat reduction. This new, fast growing technology works by freezing fat cells in targeted areas. Atlantic Plastic Surgery Center now has the new Coolfit Smooth Applicator for hard to reach areas, such as outer thighs. The new coolfit applicator has a flat surface and larger plates, treating an area 38% larger than the old applicator.
The ideal candidate for Coolsculpting is close to their goal weight, yet has persistent areas of fat that diet and exercise alone do not seem to help. The ideal candidate has a generally healthy weight with a body mass index of less than 30, but has at least an inch of pinch-able fat. Each Coolsculpting treatment reduces about 25% of the fat in the area treated.
The uniqueness of the coolfit applicator is that it is designed to "grab" areas of the body that were previously difficult to treat, which are the outer thighs, vertical columns of abdominal fat, upper arms, inner thighs, back of thighs and below the buttocks. The new coolfit applicator delivers precisely controlled, gentle cooling to the selected treatment area specifically targeting fat. The cold brings the underlying fat to temperatures that doesn't damage the skin but permanently kills the fat cells so the body can remove them. Starting several weeks after the procedure, the cooled fat cells begin a process called "apoptosis" and begin to shrink. The body proceeds to naturally and gradually eliminate the cooled fat cells through the lymphatic system, reducing the thickness of the fat layer, over a period of 8 to 12 weeks. Approximately two to four months after the coolsculpting treatment, patients begin to notice significant results in the treated areas.
Happily, we have a set number of fat cells in our bodies. We don't make more. The size of fat cells expand and contract as we lose or gain weight, but once removed from an area, that area will remain smaller if weight stays stable.
Coolsculpting has shown significant results in clinical studies for removing fat without the potential risks of damage to nearby tissues. This technique of reducing fat through freezing targeted cells is based on science developed by Harvard scientists. There is a vast body of research that demonstrates that fat cells are more susceptible to cold and are selectively, painlessly and permanently destroyed. CoolSculpting is safe and non-invasive, meaning that unlike many other methods of fat reduction, CoolSculpting involves no needles, surgery or downtime. On average, each CoolSculpting procedure results in an undeniable reduction of fat in the treated area, and patients can start to see results as soon as three weeks following treatment, with the most dramatic results occurring over a period of two to four months in most patients.
