A new report says that Londoners are "sleepwalking" into alcohol addiction with an increase in drinking at home. The study discovered that more people are concerned about drinking at home than at bars and pubs. Londoners also want more say in how alcohol licenses are granted, less alcohol advertising in their communities and more education programs for children about alcohol addiction.
These findings are from a public consultation for the London Drink Debate Campaign. Run by the Regional Public Health Group, the campaign hopes to develop the first city-wide strategy for the police, the National Health Service and pub trade for dealing with the problems created by alcohol addiction. London has less of an alcohol problem than the rest of England, yet an estimated two million Londoners drink to excess. Alcohol-related hospital admissions have almost doubled in the past six years.
An estimated 45 percent of violent crime in London is alcohol-related. The cost to police, health services and communities is staggering. The study into the views of Londoners on the social impact of alcohol reveals that moderate drinking plays a role in British society. The report highlights the concerns of people that alcohol has affected their neighborhoods.
The impact on children of drinking at home is thought of as a major issue for Londoners, especially when it concerns their relationship with parents who drink excessively.
If you or someone you love is struggling with alcohol, please don’t wait another minute.
