Serena Williams will get a shot at defending her Australian Open title after a bruising two-set victory over China’s Li Na 7-6 (7-4), 7-5 in the semifinals of the Grand Slam event.
Serena, visibly showing the signs of wear from her past matches and doubles play, once again turned to her serve for the crucial points as she hammered out 12 aces and managed to collect points on 86% of her first serves put in play. For Li, it was just a matter of too many unforced errors as her 38 miscues opened the door for Serena.
Williams has achieved a career Grand Slam with four titles at the Australian Open (2003, 2005, 2007, 2009), three titles at the U.S. Open (1999, 2002, 2008), three at Wimbledon (2002, 2003, 2009) and a French Open title (2002).
