Comcast Corp. and NBC Universal are defending the decision for the cable company plan to seize control of NBC, claiming it does not raise major antitrust concerns.
The two businesses are focused in distinct and highly competitive media markets therefore rendering suspicions surrounding the prospect of market monopolization unfounded, in their opinion.
Comcast and NBC describe the union as a “vertical combination” that does not threaten the competition in either programming or cable distribution. The companies submitted a 136-page document with the Federal Communications Commission on Thursday supporting this claim. The review of the document and the decision making process is expected to take as much as a year.
