Former U.S. President Bill Clinton, appearing at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, appealed to business leaders to assist in the relief efforts in Haiti following the country’s devastating earthquake two weeks ago.
With as many as 200,000 dead and more than 1.5 million left homeless Clinton stressed the need for urgency in providing immediate relief, telling those in attendance “We need to get a distribution network up to get the food and the water out. If there's anybody who knows where I can get pick-up trucks or something slightly bigger, I need 100 yesterday. They do.”
Clinton wasn’t the only one to make an appeal on Haiti’s behalf as Irish entrepreneur Denis O’Brien, owner of Haiti’s mobile telecom company Digicel, promoted the country as an opportunity for investment in areas like tourism and biofuels.
