In a letter submitted by his lawyers, Sylvester Stallone apologized to the Downing Center Local Court in Sydney saying “"I made a terrible mistake, not because I was attempting to deceive anyone but I was simply ignorant to your official rules.”
Stallone, along with a group traveling with the 60-year-old actor, were found to be carrying several vials of a human growth hormone when they arrived in Australia in February to promote his latest film “Rocky Balboa.”
Importing a human growth hormone without a permit is against the law in Australia, something Stallone’s lawyers said he did not know, “The defendant, Sylvester Stallone, is extremely mortified about having been involved in this incident, had he known that what he was doing was contrary to Australian law, he almost certainly would not have done it.”
When Stallone arrived at the Sydney Airport in February he refrained from claiming the substances on a declaration card that specifically asked if he was carrying restricted items “such as medicines, steroids, firearms, weapons, or any kind of illicit drugs.”
Stallone will face sentencing next week.
