Jerry Falwell Found Unconscious in his Office, “Gravely Serious” Condition

The Rev. Jerry Falwell, was taken to Lynchburg General Hospital after he was found unconscious in his office at Liberty University in Virginia.

The 73-year-old founder of the Moral Majority had gone to his office shortly after eating breakfast with Liberty’s executive vice president Ron Godwin and appeared in good health. He was found in his office around 10:45 a.m. and was unresponsive before being rushed to the hospital.

Falwell has long been the voice of the religious right and held heavy influence in the presidency of Ronald Regan as well as George Bush.

In 2005 Falwell was hospitalized for two weeks with a viral infection and then again less than a month later after going into respiratory arrest due to a blockage in an artery.

A hospital spokeswoman has said that she had “no information to release at this time.”
