Miami Heat Guard Dwyane Wade Undergoes Surgery on Left Shoulder and Knee

After suffering a first round playoff sweep at the hands of the Chicago Bulls, the Miami Heat are banking on a healthy Dwyane Wade to lead them back to the NBA Finals next year. Their star guard underwent surgery on both his left shoulder and left knee on Tuesday in what he hopes will bring him back to the same playing level that he used to win the MVP of the NBA Finals last year.

Wade will likely take the offseason to recuperate from the surgery which would mean he would prevent him from participating in the FIBA Americas Championship, a preliminary tournament used to qualify for the Olympic Games in 2008.

The 6’4 Wade played in 51 games last season. He dislocated his left shoulder when he collided with Shane Battier in a game against the Houston Rockets in February. The injury came just as the Heat were getting Shaquille O’Neal back from an injury lasted 40 games.
