Roger Federer needed a set to get his feet under him in the quarterfinals before blasting his way past Nikolay Davydenko but in the Australian Open semifinals the Swiss star needed no time at all to take apart Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in straight sets 6-2, 6-3, 6-2 to advance to the finals where he will now face Andy Murray.
Federer was dominant in every area of his game as he won points on 84% of his first serves put in play, committed just 13 unforced errors while still collecting 33 winners. Federer was so in control of his play that Tsonga never had a break opportunity.
Federer has won the Australian Open three times, most recently in 2007. The Swiss star also owns a career Grand Slam having won his first French Open title last year to go along with his five U.S. Open titles and six Wimbledon titles. Federer’s 15 Grand Slam singles titles are most of any male player.
