Ben Gordon scored 28 points, Luol Deng added 20 points and grabbed 7 rebounds and Kirk Hinrich finished with 17 points and 13 assists as the Chicago Bulls used a big third quarter to knock off the Detroit Pistons 108-92 and pull to within one game of evening their Eastern Conference playoff series 3-2.
The Bulls carried an eight point lead into the third quarter and then used a 13-0 run to boost their advantage to 85-64 with 2:29 left in the period and buried the Pistons chances.
From the opening bucket of the game the Bulls never trailed as they opened a 31-25 lead after the first period behind Ben Gordon’s seven points and Kirk Hinrich’s six. Chicago’s lead was boosted to 14 in the second quarter but Chauncey Billups closed the half scoring ten points and trimmed the Pistons deficit to eight heading into the deciding third period.
Chicago shot 57 percent from the floor in the game and hit 62 percent from beyond the three-point line. Detroit finished the game shooting 42 percent from the field and hit 29 percent from beyond the arch.
The series now shifts back to Chicago where the two teams will meet on Thursday in game six of their best of seven series.
