The couple made the announcement at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland, adding that the aim was to see 90% of children in developing countries immunized.
In the past yen years, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has given $4.5 billion to vaccine development. The World Health Organization called the foundation’s commitment “unprecedented”.
Mr. Gates said that by increasing immunization coverage in poorer countries to 90% it should be possible to save the lives of 7.6 million children under five between 2010 and 2019.
