The most consistent and strongest singer of this season’s ‘American Idol’ has been sent home. Melinda Doolittle’s powerful voice and ability to handle just about any type of song wasn’t enough to overcome the fan base of Jordin Sparks and Blake Lewis.
The one question mark surrounding Doolittle had always been her presence on stage and in the end that proved to be her downfall. While there wasn’t a single ‘Idol’ hopeful that could sing with her, there were several that learned there was more to the show than just a voice.
With Melinda gone the door is now wide open for Jordin Sparks to take the ‘American Idol’ crown. Sparks was the first to be announced as safe this week, leaving Blake and Melinda in the bottom two. Blake has had a huge following amongst the fans for his originality and inventiveness, a trait that seemed to be enough to overcome his inability to sing.
Tonight’s vote was more about Melinda and Jordin than it was about Blake. Both Doolittle and Sparks split votes as they carried a similar style while Blake has managed to create his own loyal following. Now that Melinda is gone look for Jordin to inherit her votes and take the title as season six’s ‘American Idol.’
