Richard Hamilton scored 23 points, Chauncey Billups added 21 points and 7 assists and Rasheed Wallace finished with 16 points and 13 rebounds as the Detroit Pistons stepped it up in the second half to beat the Chicago Bulls 95-85 and advance to the Eastern Conference Finals.
Detroit trailed by five heading into the third quarter but a 12-1 run to open the frame gave them a 55-49 lead and they never trailed again.
The Bulls suffered from missed opportunities in the second half and an inability to find the bottom of the bucket on shots from the floor. Chicago was down by just five when the fourth quarter started but they didn’t score their first field-goal of the quarter until Kirk Hinrich hit a jumper with 8:41 on the clock. It would be more than six minutes later that Luol Deng added the Bulls second field goal, a layup, but by that point it was a ten point Pistons advantage with 2:08 left in the game.
Detroit will now face the winner of the Cleveland Cavaliers-New Jersey Nets series in the Eastern Conference Finals.
