The dismissal of Melinda Doolittle from ‘American Idol’ has left a huge void in talent when it comes down to singing ability and as a result Simon Cowell has thrown his hands in the air and declared “I can’t call it at this stage.”
Cowell broke down the final two contestants, Jordin Sparks and Blake Lewis, during a conference call declaring “For Blake, he's a brilliant entertainer, but the negative is he's not a fantastic singer. The advantage for Jordin is she is a great singer and the negative is she hasn't done one performance yet which I can remember as a 'wow.'”
While Doolittle certainly eclipsed the “great singer” moniker and delivered incredible vocals she lacked the ability to develop the entertainment aspect of the show. While Lewis gets by on his interaction with the crowd and ingenuity and Sparks flies high on her looks and adequate voice neither one could share a stage with Melinda when it came to singing.
So now it’s about image and that’s all. Cowell commented on the Doolittle vote saying “She had delivered 10 weeks in a row better than anyone else.” But Cowell knows better than anyone that a voice won’t win the competition and with Jordin and Blake remaining it comes down to who is more appealing to the faithful voters.
The two-part finale begins on Tuesday with the vote for the title of ‘American Idol’ being revealed on Wednesday.
