Men’s AP Top 25 College Basketball Rankings Week 12: Kansas Jayhawks Reclaim #1 Spot Following Kentucky Wildcats Short Reign
The Kansas Jayhawks are once again the #1 team in the country, taking the top spot in the men’s AP Top 25 college basketball rankings following a week that included impressive Big 12 wins over the Missouri Tigers and Kansas State Wildcats. Kansas was able to reclaim their #1 ranking thanks in large part to the South Carolina Gamecocks who upset the then #1 Kentucky Wildcats last week.
While Kansas is back at #1 it was hardly unanimous as four teams received votes for number one including Kentucky. The Wildcats were anointed #1 last week but in their first game as the nation’s top-ranked squad they fell to the Gamecocks and now sit at #4 in the AP Top 25 college basketball rankings.
Directly below Kansas are the Villanova Wildcats who took apart Notre Dame in their only game of the week. Villanova received four first-place votes and could pick up more next week if they get through Seton Hall and Georgetown on Tuesday and Saturday.
The Syracuse Orange remain one of the most impressive teams in the country and grabbed six first-place votes but settled at #3 in this week’s rankings. Syracuse beat-up Georgetown and then found a way to survive their game against DePaul in their two Big East wins.
