A horse-drawn hearse carried the body of the Rev. Jerry Falwell to his final resting spot in Lynchburg, Virginia on Tuesday as thousands of mourners paid their respects to the founder of the Moral Majority.
Among the many accomplishments that Falwell achieved was the creation of Liberty University, a Christian liberal arts university in Lynchburg, Virginia. It was one week ago that Falwell was found on the floor of his office. After being rushed to a nearby hospital he was pronounced dead. He was 73.
Falwell’s body had laid in repose for four days as more than 30,000 people had an opportunity to view the evangelist one last time.
He was buried during a private ceremony on the grounds of Liberty University near his office.
