Finishing 32-50 in the NBA has its advantages, just ask the Portland Trail Blazers. On Tuesday night the ping-pong balls favored the Pacific Northwest as the Portland franchise nabbed the number one overall pick in the upcoming NBA Draft and their neighbors, the Seattle Supersonics, came up with the number two selection.
Now the real work begins for the Trail Blazers who will have to figure out whether its going to be Greg Oden or Kevin Durant who they rest their hopes upon. Either way the Sonics can’t lose as they are almost certainly going to select the player Portland shuns.
The Atlanta Hawks landed the number three selection in the NBA Draft and this is where Draft Day will become interesting. While nobody would be shocked if the Hawks front office used the pick to select a polar bear from Alaska this could be where the Chinese star Yi Jianlian hears his name called. Sure the Hawks need a point guard but if the name Mike Conley Jr. is called you can expect an average attendance of 1,250 per home game.
Despite the worst record in the NBA, the Memphis Grizzlies dropped to number four in the selection process and they will be followed by the equally awful Boston Celtics. Brandan Wright and Al Horford will probably find themselves in the mix with both these teams. Boston is most in need of a center but if Wright is selected ahead of Horford they may have to settle for a 6-9 forward.
