With the release of “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” just around the corner Johnny Depp has already begun talking about continuing the tale of Captain Jack Sparrow in yet another “Pirates” flick.
It seems Depp has grown so enamored with the mascara laced buccaneer that he may want the “Pirates” franchise to continue, but a break is certainly in order. Originally created as a trilogy, the first two “Pirates” movies have generated such a following that it seems they could continue for as long as they wanted to produce them.
Depp has been vague about Jack Sparrow sailing the seas in another installment but his language may be more a defense mechanism just in case it doesn’t happen. It seems Depp has grown so fond of the Captain character that the end may be just too much, “There was always that potential that each of us would have to say goodbye to the character, but if it is over, which one never knows, Captain Jack will always be with me.”
The good news for Depp is that he is not alone in fanning the flames of a possible return. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer was quoted as saying “This is the end for now, I think everybody is exhausted and needs some time off. We're all going to take a little break.”
It’s the “for now” part that fans will be hanging on to after “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” hits theaters. Depp was nominated for an Oscar in “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl” and wouldn’t mind earning his first Academy Award with a bit of eye-liner.
“Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” premiers in Tokyo today and is scheduled to hit U.S. theaters Thursday.
