According to his agent Jerome Stanley, Keyshawn Johnson has turned down an offer from the Tennessee Titans and will officially retire later today.
Johnson, who was released from the Carolina Panthers shortly after they drafted Dwayne Jarrett, already has plans for his life outside of the NFL. Stanley was quoted as saying “Following Keyshawn's retirement announcement we plan an announcement on his joining ESPN.”
The 35-year-old wide receiver has already had a taste of an analyst’s life as he worked with ESPN during the 2007 NFL Draft. In an ironic twist of fate it was during the course of the draft that his NFL career more or less ended. After the Panthers selected Jarrett an optimistic Johnson expressed excitement about playing with the USC standout only to find out that wouldn’t be happening.
After being selected with the number one overall pick by the New York Jets in 1996 Johnson went on to play 11 seasons in the NFL with four different teams. He caught 814 passes in his career for 10,571 yards and 64 touchdowns.
