Simon Cowell Prepares to Leave ‘American Idol’ After Contract Expires

Over the years ‘American Idol’ has built itself around Simon Cowell as much as it has the ‘Idol’ hopefuls. Now the often acerbic judge has said the show will have to go on without him as he prepares to leave the show when his contract expires in three years.

Cowell told Extra “I'll have done 10 series and your times up. It's time then to do something new. I think it's time to bring in new people... Ten years is a long time”

Known for his blunt criticism of contestants, Cowell has tamed his tirades over the past few seasons and this season he has opted to go with silence on occasion when he wants to display utter disapproval.

‘American Idol’ wraps up its sixth season this evening as Jordin Sparks and Blake Lewis battle it out for the title.
