The Orlando Magic fired head coach Brian Hill on Wednesday after his second stint as team leader didn’t go as smoothly as his first.
Over a three-year period in the 1990s Brian Hill led the Orlando Magic to 167 wins and a birth in the NBA Finals. In the last two seasons Hill managed back-to-back losing campaigns that totaled 76 wins.
Of course Hill had a young Shaquille O’Neal, an unstoppable Penny Hardaway, the sharp shooting duo of Dennis Scott and Nick Anderson and the physical presence of Horace Grant in his mid 90s run but much was expected of Hill this go round as well.
Many felt Hill should have done more with a lineup that included Dwight Howard, Darko Milicic, Hedo Turkoglu and Grant Hill but Orlando struggled at times this year. A late season run earned them the number eight seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs but they were quickly swept by the Detroit Pistons.
Hills nine-year career as a head coach has earned him a 298-315 mark, the majority of those losses came in his stint with the Vancouver Grizzlies where he was 31-123.
