‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Star Keira Knightley Wins Libel Suit

Keira Knightley, 22, has been awarded $5,965 in libel damages after High Court Justice David Eady found in favor of the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ actress in her suit against the London based newspaper Daily Mail.

In a story run by Daily Mail the paper ran a story about a 19-year-old woman, Sophie Mazurek, who died from anorexia. The story was accompanied by a photo of Keira Knightley in a bikini with the headline reading “If Pictures Like This One of Keira Carried a Health Warning, My Darling Daughter Might Have Lived.”

Just three days prior to publishing the story the Daily Mail released an article titled “It's Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Keira Knightley” in which it made reference to Knightley’s denial that she suffered an eating disorder.

Knightley, who has been outspoken in her support of women being comfortable with their bodies, sued the paper for its insinuation that she was anorexic.

After being awarded libel damages Knightley said she would match the money and donate it to a charity which helps people with eating and mental disorders.
