With Johnny Depp, Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom back for the third installment of the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ trilogy Hollywood is looking to break the bank this weekend as ‘At World’s End’ sails into theaters.
Captain Jack Sparrow along with the rest of the ‘Pirates’ crew will look to wrestle back the opening weekend record that ‘Spider-Man 3’ set just a few weeks ago. Of course it’s a bit personal for the buccaneers as it was their film that the web weaver surpassed for the record. So while ‘Spider-Man 3’ eclipsed ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest’ it is likely that ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End’ will trump the $148 million opening weekend of ‘Spider-Man.’
Predictions for ‘Pirates’ has the movie raking in $175 million during the Memorial Day weekend despite its nearly three-hour screen time. ‘Pirates’ will also be going up against ‘Shrek the Third’ in its second weekend. Just last week the green ogre broke the opening weekend record for animated flicks pulling in $122 million.
