Rosie O’Donnell will not be returning to “The View” after asking ABC to release her from the remainder of her contract following a heated debate she had with Elisabeth Hasselbeck on Wednesday’s show.
Rosie had nearly three weeks until her contract expired in mid-June yet couldn’t see herself returning amid the controversy that was sparked in the debate.
Even Donald Trump felt it necessary to weigh in on the verbal assault of two days ago but surprisingly sided with O’Donnell, calling Hasselbeck “one of the dumber people on television.” Trump didn’t elaborate if he felt Rosie fit in that category as well.
After it was announced that she would not be back on the show Rosie released a statement saying “It's been an amazing year and I love all three women.” O’Donnell has shared the hosting duties with Hasselbeck, Joy Behar and the show’s creator Barbara Walters for a nearly one year.
Walters commented about Rosie’s time on the show stating “Rosie contributed to one of our most exciting and successful years at 'The View,' I am most appreciative. Our close and affectionate relationship will not change.”
